The Segway Polo Club of Barbados sat down Paul Davies from Coventry, UK, to hear his thoughts on the 2018 Barbados Cup – Segway Polo in Paradise. Paul will feature in his 2nd Cup this year, and hopes to defend his 2016 title. This is what he had to share:
Q: What keeps you coming back to Barbados?
A: I come to Barbados for the rum, sun and the fun. Also, to visit my Bajan friends who have fabulous hospitality.
Q: What do you love most about Segway Polo in Paradise?
A: All the players play with such a great spirit and you get the opportunity to play with world class players who you wouldn’t normally get the opportunity to play on the same with.
Q: You won the last Barbados Cup on your debut. Tell us about your experience in that tournament.
A: Memories that I have from 2016 include mainly playing with the legend that is Nevin Roach in my team, that he coached to victory with his mild well-mannered people skills. The tournament was well organized, including the presence of the medical staff that took care of me when I needed the attention.
Q: What do you love the most about Barbados?
A: Barbados is a very chilled place with friendly people that always have time for you.
Q: What are you looking forward to most this year?
A: I’m looking forward to seeing all of my friends.
Q: Do you think you will defend your title?
A: Defence of the title is the goal but lots of that depends on how a team jells. Hopefully I do not end up on a team with negative players. I would like to play on a team that firstly wants to have fun and as it gets closer to the latter games, step it up into overdrive.
Paul will bring his wealth of experience, having played Segway Polo for over 2 years and participated in numerous major tournaments.
The Barbados Cup will get underway from May 18-21, 2018 at the UWI Cave Hill Usain Bolt Sports Complex.
